Sam Harris: A Journey into the Heart of Delusion
For many years, I’ve been an ardent admirer of Sam Harris, with my admiration dating back to 2016 when I initially discovered him. I found his perspectives on atheism and science to be captivating, and he represented a voice of rationality in my eyes, or so I believed.
In recent years, however, his image seems to have shifted. It’s possible that I overlooked these traits before, but I believe he has grown increasingly aggressive and confrontational. Additionally, it appears as though he has become more detached from reality.
It appears that this transformation began with the emergence of Donald Trump. Sam Harris seems to be afflicted by what is commonly referred to as “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” His fixation on Trump has led him to lose sight of rationality. Sadly, he has turned into a caricature of his former self, and it is disheartening to witness.
Upon viewing his interview with Lex Friedman, I observed an intriguing aspect. Despite maintaining a calm and composed demeanor without raising his voice, I couldn’t help but sense an overwhelming rage emanating from him. This sheer intensity of fury and madness radiating from his presence was genuinely unnerving and frightening.
The ego wields considerable influence, serving as both a source of remarkable strength and debilitating weakness. In Sam Harris’s case, it appears that his ego has overtaken him. He has fallen prey to its control, resulting in a descent into delusion.
It was difficult for me to watch the podcast, particularly due to his troubling views on Kanye. While I don’t agree with Kanye’s statements either, Sam Harris’s insistence that he should be canceled and completely disregarded starkly contrasts with his stance from years past. It seems as though he has strayed from his previous principles. He has become a mirror image of the very attitudes he once critiqued. Alternatively, it could be that these traits were always present, and I simply hadn’t noticed them before.
While Sam Harris has consistently expressed disdain for extreme religious beliefs, which I concur with, he appears to have grown less tolerant of diverse perspectives over time. He has essentially transformed into a zealot of his own beliefs, displaying intolerance towards those who hold opposing views. Something that was not noticable before now. At least not to me.
It seems that Sam Harris is attempting to reestablish himself in the public eye after experiencing a difficult time during the pandemic, which also had a peculiar impact on him. However, based on observations, it appears that he has lost a significant amount of the respect he once commanded.
I’m unsure if Sam Harris will ever be able to recapture the acceptance he previously held. In recent years, his progressively dogmatic and judgmental demeanor has revealed a hypocritical and authoritarian aspect of his personality. This change could make it challenging for him to regain the respect and credibility he once possessed.
I have lost all respect for Sam Harris. His patronizing tone, overbearing ego, and unwillingness to admit mistakes are qualities I don’t want in my life. It’s crucial for me to be surrounded by influences that promote personal growth and positivity, and distancing myself from someone who no longer aligns with my values seems like the right choice.
Sincerely,
Internal Dilemma
