How elitism is slowly but surely destroying our society
When I refer to elites, I am encompassing academics, media professionals, experts, and political figures. As a society, we have placed an excessive amount of faith in these individuals. Despite their numerous mistakes regarding various issues, we continue to heed their advice. They have made errors in their assessments of the economy, the environment, the pandemic, and other matters.
Making mistakes is not inherently negative; we all err frequently. However, it is the reluctance of these elites to acknowledge their errors that is detrimental to our society. Their arrogance leads them to believe they are perpetually correct, more intelligent than others, and superior to the rest of us. This attitude contributes to the erosion of our social fabric. And I have no sympathy for these elites overall, considering their behavior and attitude.
Throughout most of my life, I have been surrounded by farmers and hardworking, honest individuals. I have witnessed firsthand the treatment they receive from the elites. These people are frequently disregarded, demeaned, and treated as if they lack intelligence.
But nothing can be further from the truth. These people are the backbone of our society. They are the ones who work hard to provide for their families. They are the ones who are responsible for feeding us. And even more than that, they are the ones who usually have the most common sense and the best judgment.
The more the years pass, the more I listen to them. And I have come to realize that they are the ones who are right most of the time. They are the ones who are the most knowledgeable about the world around them. They are the ones who are the most honest and trustworthy. And they are the ones who are the most humble. They are the ones who are the most deserving of our respect.
All these jorunalists, academics, and experts are not. They are the ones who are the most arrogant and self-centered. They are the ones who are the most self-serving. They are the ones who are the most dishonest and manipulative.
I have read many books in my life and I still often feel dumb around my neighbors. I consider this a positive thing, as it signifies that I still possess humility. This still means that I have a lot to learn. And I am willing to learn from anyone who is willing to teach me.
And when I speak to my friends who are extremely well educated and intelligent, I am often surprised by how little they know. They are often arrogant and condescending. They are often dismissive of the opinions of others. They are often unwilling to listen to the opinions of others. They are often unwilling to admit when they are wrong. And they are often unwilling to admit when they do not know something.
Ironically, admitting to being wrong and recognizing the limits of one’s knowledge are essential aspects of science and learning. Acknowledging our mistakes and gaps in understanding is the only path to acquiring new knowledge. It is through this process that we grow, improve, and ultimately make progress.
Elitists have managed to undermine the very essence of the scientific method. By convincing themselves that they are infallible, they have diminished public trust in the scientific community. These individuals have come to believe that they alone possess the ability to comprehend the world and that only they are capable of making informed decisions on behalf of everyone else. This mindset not only contradicts the principles of scientific inquiry but also jeopardizes the collective advancement of society.
Sincerely,
Internal Dilemma
